1. Abner Chapman #810 born Abt __ 1781, Virginia, married Mar 13 1809, in Caroline County, Virginia, (1) Phoebe Carter #811, born Abt __ 1781, Probably Virginia, (daughter of George Carter #2790 and Frances Diane Goodloe #2791) died Abt __ 1840, Probably Woodford County, Kentucky. Abner died Aft __ 1850, Woodford Co., KY. For more on his descendants see CFA Quarterly #22 Summer 2000 pg 19 The data that follows has been collected and compiled for years by Delmoine Shepherd DS2-079, her daughter Marianne Morgan MNM-140, and Dorothy A. Wogh DAW-226. Your help is needed in proving the following and in adding to Abner's ancestry. Contact either of them or a CFA officer. Abner Chapman was enumerated in 1810 and 1820 Caroline County, Virginia and these records support the idea that he was born about 1781 and Phebe born about 1795. In 1810 there was an older female - age 45 and over in his household. These two census records reveal that Abner and Phebe had at least three sons and three daughters by enumeration day in 1820.

Abner's whereabouts in 1830 and 1840 have not been proven but there was no Abner apparent in 1830 Virginia. There was an Abner Chapman in Christian County, KY in 1830 and the tabulation of the ages and sex of the children do not preclude them from consideration. An Abner Chapman married Elizabeth Thompson according to the LDS-IGI which shows August 9 1801 in Warren County, KY. Warren and Christian Counties are in the western part of south central Kentucky and a considerable distance from Woodford County. They should be discounted. It is interesting to note however that also in 1830 Christian County was an Anthony Chapman born between 1800 and 1810. Note that one of Abner's son's born 1824 (probably based on 1850 census) was named Anthony.

Abner was not in Woodford County for the 1830 census but there was a Neil (Cornelius) Chapman family there in 1830. A Cornelius Chapman married Polly Wilson in Fayette County, KY July 23, 1822. Was it this family that attracted Abner to the county? The tabulation for Neil's family was 100001 - 410010001 showing he was born between 1790 and 1800. This indicates that Neil and his wife had a son and five daughters (at least a male and five females) and an older female living with them.

We find no Abner Chapman in the 1840 census of Kentucky but in Woodford County there was a Cornelius, William and W. S. Chapman. Perhaps Abner was enumerated with a son.
